Roads Minister Abolishes Road Toll Effective Tomorrow

Information just coming in I that, the ministry of Roads and transport has directed all road toll collectors to vacate the premises by 12:00am on Thursday 18th November 2021. This was in direction to the decision of Government to abolish road tolls in the country.

The announcement which was mentioned on News 360 on TV3 added that the Ghana Police Service will deploy enough men to all toll collection points across the country to ensure the directives are complied to. It was signed by the sector minister Hon. Akwasi Amoako Atta.

During the budget presentation today, the minister for finance announced that the government will abolish the collection of road tolls in the country as soon as the budget is approved. In the wisdom of the Government, collection of road tolls causes traffic jam and nuisance.

But in place of this the government is seeking to introduce electronic tax where mobile money transactions will attract an additional 1.7%. This money will go into providing finding for road constructions in Ghana.

What was not clear is if the electronic communications levy will equally start immediately.
