Africa politics

The system is not working at all. Check this out.

I am following the flood disaster in Germany closely. I note especially how ordinary people are mobilizing to help the victims. They are opening their homes to those whose homes have been destroyed, providing food, clothes, medicines, vehicles and volunteering to help. These are ordinary everyday regular Germans, not the German government.

If this was to happen in Ghana or anywhere in Africa the victims would be on their own. They would have to wait for the National Disaster Management Organization NADMO which would take forever to come, if they come at all.

The disaster relief items meant for the victims would be stolen and shared by the emergency workers. The rest would be shared along political party lines.

The government would set up committees to collect donations on behalf of the victims but the money would never be accounted for.

Politicians would appear on Television touring the disaster zone with broad smiles and making promises before disappearing into thin air.

And the disaster victims would be left to fend for themselves.

There is a political philosophy in Tanzania based on the Swahili word UJAMAA, which broadly means “I am your keeper and you are my keeper”, or “brotherly and sisterly love” (it’s called Philadelphia in the Bible).

It means I am your brother and you are my brother. I am your sister and you are my sister.

It’s the reason Tanzania is a peaceful and prosperous oasis in a region in perpetual turmoil.

Their secret is brotherly love. Philadelphia. UJAMAA.

If we the citizens cared for each other we can make it together. We won’t need the politicians.

Because clearly, the politicians do not care about the citizens. They only care for themselves.

Addendum: We need more love in Ghana. As the late TB Joshua said, LET LOVE LEAD.
