The Caretaker Finance Minister, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, in the presentation of the 2021 budget statement in Parliament disclosed Government's intention to bring a new levy on petrol and diesel as part of revenue mobilization efforts.
According to Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Government is proposing a sanitation and pollution levy of 10 pesewas on the price per liter of petrol and diesel under the Energy Sector Levies Act (ESLA).
In an interview with, George Opoku Mensah on Nkwantananso on Opemsuo fm, the National Chairman for the Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union, Nana Nimako Birisiamah has appealed to the drivers and car owners in the country to exercise patience over the increment of fuel prices.
He said the executives of GPRTU will today hold a meeting with the government and Transport ministry to form a census concerning the increment of fuel prices.
Nana Birisiamah disclosed that fuel prices have been increasing daily for the recent days with cumulative result being that Goil, Shell and Total have since last week increased the price of petrol to 5.450 Ghana Cedis.
