The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare stormed the streets of Akatsi in the Volta Region with caution to criminals. In a brief interaction with the youth in the community, Dr Dampare stressed that the Police is not an enemy to the people and as such should be supported to take out criminals among them.
He noted that the peaceful co-existence and support between the Police and the people is crucial to promoting peacebuilding and a safe environment for development. Dr Dampare remarked that it is only those with criminal intentions who would find the presence of the Police and other security agencies to be threatening.
The IGP indicated that until crime becomes extinct among communities the Police will never relax on its oars in fighting them. He intimated that the interdependence that exists between the Police and the public is very complex such that only those that are conscious about their safety get to make the police their friends.
Give a lecture on the psychology of criminals; Dr Dampare said criminals have no use for the police but the good and innocent people in communities. On that note, the IGP urged the youth and people of Akatsi to make the police their trusted partners in protecting lives.
“There are so many good people among you but there are some bad ones too. The bad people don’t disturb the police, they disturb the good people. That is their logic. We are enemies to those criminals among you. So you the good people are to be protected by the Police,” he explained.
He noted that the Police are undergoing transformation and would soon be a top professional body in Ghana and across the globe. Dr Dampare intimated that the public would once again deepen its respect and hold the police in high esteem.
“Very soon you will salute us when you see us,” he said.
Dr Dampare entreated the youth to trust the Police to discharge its work professionally, adding that under his command criminals would take a huge risk to execute their evil intention against innocent lives.
