The culprit was apprehended with the help of community members after she tried suicide shortly after setting the deceased ablaze, leaving her with life-threatening burns that ultimately led to her death.
According to the police, early investigations have found that both the suspect and the deceased worked at the same restaurant in Woe, but that the suspect was relieved of her duties by the facility's management.
Following further research, it was discovered that Godsway Ablorde suspected the deceased of orchestrating her discharge.
As a result, she advised the restaurant's management to fire the victim as well.
The suspect went to the restaurant on January 11, 2022, at 8:00 p.m., armed with a gallon of petrol and diesel, as well as a box of matches, and drenched the victim with the gasoline and lit her on fire.
The victim, who was alone at the time, fought for her life until she was brought to the Keta Government Hospital for medical treatment, but she died the next morning about 7:00 a.m.
While investigations continue, the suspect was arraigned today, Thursday, 13 January 2022, before the Anloga District Magistrate Court and remanded to appear on February 24, 2022.
