Arrest Hawa Koomson too; pressure mounts on Dampare to go after politicians who broke the law

The Inspector-General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, since he was appointed by His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has made a clear statement that no one is above the law. Dampare has cracked the whip and puts certain "untouchable" individuals who in past broke the laws of the land with impunity to their rightful place.

There have been some high-profile arrests made by the Ghana Police Service under his tenure which has received resounding applause from the Ghanaians for. The latest of such arrests is Medikal who was reportedly arrested for brandishing a gun on social media. Aside from setting the records straight that the laws of the land cannot be treated with disrepute under his tenure, the Dampare-led administration has introduced novel measures to gather intelligence and to protect lives and properties. Some of the initiatives include the introduction of horses and sniffer dogs into the Police Service.

But the key question that remains unanswered in the minds of Ghanaians is, can Dampare master the courage to clamp down on politicians, most especially members of the ruling government if they are found culpable? Influence from the executive is one major factor that has weakened the Police Service of the country. It is popular opinion that, for Dampare to make the service effective, he must not be selective in the discharge of his duties and most especially should not spare politicians if he wants his credibility to be intact.

It is in the light of this that, Ghanaians have started mounting pressure on the Ghana Police Service to go after politicians who have fallen foul of the laws too. Many have cited Honourable Hawa Koomson who admitted on Adom FM to brandishing a gun at the voter registration center on July 10, 2020.

Here are reactions from Ghanaians when TV3 posted the arrest of Medikal on their official Facebook timeline;
