Benjamin Ortabil has been arrested by the Agona Swedru Police Division in the Central region for duping victims of various sums of money totalling 160,000 ghana cedis in an attempt to help them travel abroad.
The police confirms that, the 40-year-old Benjamin Ortabil has deceived the people as a "travelling agent" and a "connection man" who helps people to travel to different European countries like Spain, Germany, Holland, Ireland, UK and the USA. After collecting processing and visa fees from them, he relocates and switches off his mobile phone.
The 31 victims including one female and 30 males who lives in the Central region gave different account of how the swindler duped them of their monies.
One woman recounted her story of how Benjamin took her 6500 ghana cedis to secure bank statements and other necessary travelling documents to help her join the husband who lives in Spain. After receiving the cash, he absconded and couldn't be traced again.
Another person also explained that, the man took her blood in a landcruiser vehicle to conduct medical examination including Corona virus Test and promised to scan the results and forward it to her android phones. After several months, nothing happened. The medical report was never received after collecting her money.
The victims are appealing to the media to support the police and help them retrieve their monies from him.
