Captain Smart this morning hit out at the deplorable state of housing in the country. He bemoaned how young people suffer when looking for houses to rent. According to him the government has paid little attention to this and this was getting out of hand. He queried why Ghana has Saglemi Housing units while young Ghanaians are forced to suffer when it comes to rent. He also questioned why rent rules are not applied and landlords allowed to dictate renting rules.
“Nana, would you be happy if your relative slept outside while houses are left at Saglemi to rot? Nana, look at your relative called Atta Kyea who allowed it to rot. It is good you didn’t not appoint him again. I would have been surprised if you had. The truth is just one. This man is so daft. When it comes to law he is good but in housing he knows nothing.
Look at how you are making the housing units to rot while Ghanaians suffer? Now if you want a single room self-contained it is so expensive. How can Ghanaians be allowed to suffer like this?” Captain Smart queried.
Atta Kyea was relieved of his post as Works and Housing Minister after the end of Akufo-Addo’s first term in office. He was replaced with MP for Bantama, Francis Asenso Boakye. Many have criticized Atta Kyea for his inability to complete the Saglemi Housing Project. Atta Kyea had argued that the NDC government had misappropriated monies meant for the project. He maintained that until proper investigation and accounts had been rendered he couldn’t proceed with the housing unit completion
