The Ashanti Region in recent times have been experiencing power outages which has made the residents very agitated since it is causing a lot of havoc. The Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II has also added his voice to this as he has been affected dearly. He said almost all of his home appliances have been destroyed by the recent power outages and that the Minister of Energy should do something about that for him and his residents.
Otumfuor said one time Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh came to his house and as they were eating, the lights went off right before his eyes and he was so glad it happened that way as it spoke volumes of their predicaments of late. The Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh explained why power had been unstable in his region. He said early November 2021, two towers belonging to GRIDCo collapsed affecting its 330kV Aboadze-Kumasi transmission line as a result of a fallen telecom mast.
He also assured Otumfuor that the problem is being worked on and that he cannot lie to him because he won't sit unconcerned for power in Kumasi to be toyed with. We have just encountered difficulties but they will be resolved soon, he added. The Asantehene also pushed for the Ameri Power Plant to be relocated to Kumasi.
