MP Leaps to the Rescue of Flood Victims in his Constituency With Donation of Relief Items

Following recent heavy rains that caused floods in parts of the Upper West Region, the MP for Nadowli/Kaleo has donated food and assorted items to flood victims in his constituency as a measure aimed at providing some relief as the people continue their recovery from the disaster. Hon. Anthony Sumah's intervention which is valued at GhC 40,000 included 150 bags of rice, 22 cartons of cooking oil, fifty baskets of fish, 44 cartons of tin tomato and 20 bags of salt.

In an address, Hon. Sumah expressed optimism that the items will go a long way to alleviate the plight of the people in the short - term whilst efforts are made to find long - term solutions for them. Having gone round to inspect the damage caused by the floods, the MP said it was going to take the victims a bit longer to recover, hence the need for more relief items to be arranged for them. He therefore made an appeal to benevolent individuals, groups and organisations to come to the aid of the people by mobilising relief items to be sent to communities that have been affected by the floods. Presiding Member for the Nadowli/Kaleo District Assembly, Hon. Osbert Dambia, received the items and expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for his gesture. He also assured him that the items will reach their intended beneficiaries.

A fortnight ago, Floodwaters caused by heavy and continuous rains swept across the Upper West region, destroying farms, settlements and left hundred local and international travelers and cargo trucks stranded as the major highway connecting Ghana and Burkina Faso was cut off. The Nadowli/Kaleo area was the worst hit as residents were cut off from the rest of the region as their roads were destroyed by the floods. Dozens of families also lost their homes with the Assembly forced to put up temporary structures to shelter them.
