It is every country's aim and hope to decrease the number of road accidents every year and if possible prevent it. The road accidents occure due to bad roads, faults on vehicles, and mishandlement on the drivers side. It has becomes neccesary for every government to ensure the provision of good roads to ensure safety on our roads.
In this first quarter of the year, there have been over a hundred road accidents recorded. According to the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), there have been over 700 deaths recorded due to accidents this year alone. The GHA stated that about 70% of these road accidents are due to bad roads.
It is evidential that most of our roads are not in best conditions possible. Over the yeras, all governments have contributed to provide the country with good roads. Yet the country still needs more attention in the highway sector. Drivers are also entreated to take care when driving on our roads considering the nature of roads in the country.
We cannot say the country has no good roads, there are good roads in the country especially those provided by the former Excellencies John Kuffour, late Prof. Attah Mills, and John Dramani Mahama. The sitting president is also doing his part to ensure provision of good roads in the country. He has declared this year as the year of roads so let us all support and hope for the best. Until then, we should aknowledge the kind of roads we have and drive well. Our lives matter, drive safe, arrive in one piece.
