N/R: District without single kilometer of tarred road, the case of Tatal-Sanguli

You maybe wondering in 2021 a district capital in Ghana without a single kilometer of road with bitumen or being tarred, well such is the situation of with the people of Tatal-Sanguli district of the northern region. The Tatal-Sanguli district has no meter, not even a kilometer of tarred road in the entire district. The main road leading from the Yendi Municipality through Zabzugu district to Tatale, the district capital of the Tatal-Sanguli is in deplorable state. The road becomes more deplorable as one drives into the main Tatale township. Tatale is a border town, linking Ghana and Togo at the northeastern part of the country. The Tatale road supposed to serve as an international highway linking Ghana to Togo. The funny part is that, the road from Togo is tarred to Ghana-Togo border while the Ghana side is untarred.

Residents of the town are not happy with successive governments and top politicians from the area for leaving the district under developed. The poor road network couple with leaves the district poorer. The town's business district looks dirty and dusty, with wares and other products displayed in shops and stores closed to the road are painted with dust.

According to the residents of the town, the situation makes life unbearable. A resident, Eric Kamuyo, said people in the district feel neglected and not part of Ghana. He noted that, the district is without many social amenities, thereby leaving most communities deprived. The Tatal-Sanguli district, has the Ghana-Togo border at Tatale but the road immediately after Ghana border has been tarred. The Ghana side of the road is untarred leaving an impression that, Ghana does not take it’s development serious.

The Chiefs and people the Tatal-Sanguli district is therefore appealing to the government to urgently intervene in the road infrastructure in the area.

As the rainy season draws closer, a worried resident of Tatale, Isaac Kojo, told this portal, improving the infrastructure in the area, especially, the Zabzugu-Tatale-Kara road will dramatically boost business activities in the district. He said the route is a business route where most people in the northern region transit into Togo to trade and vice versa. 

He said the road has been captured in every budget statement under the fourth republican constitutional dispensation but never been attend to. He appealed to the DCE and Member of Parliament for the area to place the development of the area as their priority. He said voting has become a redundant activity because they vote without any benefits.
