At Fijai in the Western Region's Sekondi Takoradi city, a 24-year-old alleged thief was beaten to death.
The body of the dead, Nana Kojo Dua, also known as Power, was discovered in a pool of blood in the early hours of Wednesday, April 6.
Ramatu Ibrahim, an assembly member for the area, told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson that the circumstances behind the young man's lynching are unknown, although he is said to be a notorious thief in the area.
"This morning, I was informed that a suspected thief had been beaten to death. I arrived to see the young man's lifeless body in a pool of blood. The tragedy of the situation is that after killing him, the mob dumped his body at his mother's house. "I've informed the cops, and we're waiting for them to transport the body," she said.
The dead sometimes dresses himself as a Roman Catholic priest to carry out his actions, according to residents of the Fijai hamlet who reported the event to Connect FM..
They related an incident in which he pretended to be a Catholic priest in order to steal another Catholic priest's vehicle.
Auntie Yamoah, the deceased's mother, who sounded traumatized, said she witnessed her son being beaten.
"I was at home when one of my children came to tell me that my eldest son had gone to steal and that they had begun to beat him as a result." When I arrived, I saw them thrashing him. "I asked them to save my son, but they were unconcerned," she remarked.
When asked if she is aware that her son is a prominent thief, she stated that he used to be a driver but later changed his mind.
"I know he's a driver, but he eventually came to a halt and began acting strangely." She said, "I tried to persuade him to change his mind, but he refused to listen to me." She stated.
