Five robbers, one of them, aged just 14 years, linked to series highway robbery attacks on the road, connecting the Ejura-Sekyedumase municipality with Techiman and Nkoranza in the Bono East Region, have been arrested and taken into police custody.
Cash of two thousand, two hundred and seventy-nine cedis (Ghs2,279), together with some items believed to have been snatched from their robbery attack victims have been retrieved from them.
A statement signed by the Director of Police Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, said the five persons were grabbed by the police in Ejura after extensive surveillance on their activities. It read; “The four suspects, Ajara Sagu, Rashid Ibrahim, Ibrahim Iddrisu, Musah Arijuma together with a 14-year-old boy were arrested at Ejura after extensive police surveillance on their activities”.
“On the spot search on the suspects and juvenile, led to the recovery of ten assorted mobile phones, one Infinix charger and a lady’s handbag. Other items suspected to have been robbed from commuters and retrieved from them included one unregistered Apsonic Aloba motorbike and the amount of two thousand, two hundred and seventy-nine Ghana Cedis (GHS 2,279).”
The statement said a driver, who was attacked and robbed by the five suspected violent criminals on November 15, at Adiemra, on the Techiman road, has identified them as his attackers. Other victims have also come forward to identify items seized from them by the suspects.
The statement applauded the Ejura police for the good job they were doing and assured people in the area that the police would do everything to ensure that they went about their normal business in safety.
Separately, a man has been shot dead by unidentified persons at Joli, a community in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region.
The incident happened yesterday in the morning. Belli Marfo, had left the house for his farm when the yet to be known assailant shot and killed him. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yussif Yahaya, the District Commander, confirmed the cowardly murder and said they had commenced investigations.
