Ghana’s population is now 30.8 million - Ghana Statistical Service report (GSS)

The Ghana Statistical Service has released the provisional results for 2021 Population and Housing Census.

According to the report released from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on Wednesday, 22nd September, 2021, Ghana's population is now 30.8 million.

The report says Ghana's population is growing but at a decline rate compared with the previous censuses conducted.

The report also says Ghanaian females make up a greater proportion of the population in the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) conducted as it happened in the past censuses.

Ashanti region used to be the nation's most populous region but was overtaken by Greater Accra in the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC).

Ahafo recorded the nation's least populous region. Upper West used to record the least populous region but now has been replaced.

The report says average household size is 3.6 members. It says it has been on the decline since 2000.

Also out of 10.7 million structures listed, 20% were metal containers, kiosk and wooden structures.

One out of five (5) listed structures was not fully completed and six (6)out of every ten (10) structures were for residential use.
