The direct shooting of innocent Ghanaians by the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces seems to generate some fear and tension in the country. Opinion leaders have commented that the security forces should have used hot water, tear gas, and non-lethal weapons to disperse the crowd. This is because that is what they were trained for against civilians who possess no guns in a situation like this.
But unfortunately, some security personnel were captured yesterday, 29th June 2021, targeting civilians with lethal weapons killing two and injuring four in the process. This has been considered by many as unprofessional and inhuman on the side of the security service. The most painful part is that the President of the land, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Commander-in-Chief of Ghana Armed Forces on whose authority these military men acted has not uttered a single word about this issue.
This has suggested to some Ghanaians that it appears the President does not care whether people are maltreated and kill in a protest or not. Meanwhile, the #FixTheCountry Protectors are planning to hit the streets after winning the case against the Ghana Police in Accra High Court some few days ago. In view of these, some Ghanaians are asking what would happen if this protest commenced in the country. Are the military or the security service going to kill innocent Ghanaians as you see in this cartoon?
Some Ghanaians are saying that all this is happening under the watch of President Akufo-Addo just into 6 months of his 4 years additional mandate. The question is; What will happen under his watch for the rest of the 3 and half years looking at how tension is already mounted in the country already.
The economic situation is bad with poor roads, schools under trees, high rate of unemployment among others but this government does not want Ghanaians to express their feelings. Check out reactions from some Ghanaians below:
A Facebook user known as Getty Gertrude Trudy reacted that "Eiiiiiiii and we've just done 6 months of the 4 years of the 4 more to do more oo. By the end of these 4 years, even God should congratulate every Ghanaian individual alive. This is just so sad".
