Don't Sit Down For Accidents To Occur Before Action - Residents To Authorities.

Cross section of residents within Oforikrom suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have decried the procrastinating attitudes of Ghanaian leaders who always take less attention on serious issues until something distasteful takes place in the society before they act.

According to the aggrieved residents they have over the past twelve months, reported to the city authorities the looming dangers ahead of the town about certain individuals who are unlawfully using firewoods and other related materials to block the streets of the town. 

The residents indicated that several reports have been channeled to the appropriate quarters.for attention but to no avail

 The residents cited that what appears to be frightening in the issue is the fact that the activities of the firewood operators are causing lorry accidents during night hours.

Former Assemblymembers of the area Mr Albert Gariba expressed worry about the dangers the firewood activities pose for the residents of Oforikrom.

Hon , Gariba indicated that instead of the firewood sellers to take lawful measures to pack their woods in a more convenient manner, they have been rather adding major parts of the roads to display their stock.

Making the roads in Oforikrom to become so much narrow for normal vehicular movement, hence the several complaints we have made to the authorities for action but to no avail.

Mr Akwasi Mensa a taxi driver pointed Gao station linking to the main Oforikrom township as the worst area drivers are finding it difficult to render services because of the road blockades by the firewood operators.

A chop bar keeper Madam Yaa Serwa recounted a fatal accident which nearly greeted her at her bar in last year Christmas as a result of the driver loosing control with regards to the woods that have then overtaken the road.

Madam Yaa Serwa expressed worry about the rising manner in which some residents of Oforikrom have taken the laws into their own hands as if the town is their personal property and the authorities inability to bring them to book.

Serwa humbly appealed to the relevant authorities to act quickly before Ghanaians would wake up one day to hear a very bad news from Oforikrom.
