A 12-year-old girl, Christy, mistakenly set herself ablaze on Wednesday 29th March, 2021 when she attempted to light an LPG gas burner for cooking purposes. The incident happened at Kwapong in the Asunafo South District.
The father of the deceased, Kojo Antwi who is a devoted moslem brother lives in a rented house with her wife and three children at Kwapong. But Christy belongs to a different mother. Kojo wasn't at home when the tragedy occurred. According to the tenants who live in the same compound house with Christy's father and step mother, they heard the small child screaming from the gas fireplace on that fateful day. They rushed there only to see the girl with burns all over his body and the fireplace filled with stench of burning gas. The child may have mistakenly pulled the gas trigger allowing excess gas to fill the environment before lighting the fire. But only God knows what actually happened.
They called her father who immediately rushed her to Kukuom Health Centre. After admission, the Health facility referred the child to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for urgent medical treatment due to the severity of the bodily burns.
The girl was put in an ambulance to the Ashanti region's biggest hospital.The doctors did their best to save her life but unfortunately Christy gave the the ghost on Thursday 1st April, 2021. The body has been deposited at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and police investigation.
The police are still investigating into the actual cause of the fire accident that has claimed the live of this young beautiful girl.
The family and friends of Kojo Antwi have gathered at Kwapong to show their condolences and sympathy and are still waiting for the police to release Christy's body for burial after investigation.
According to the natives of Kwapong, Kojo's wife is heavily pregnant with few days to deliver and her main work is selling fried corn in the streets. They added that, her love for the children is unparalleled.
The husband, Kojo Antwi also works with a reputable Cocoa Merchant firm and a devout muslim at Kwapong.
May her soul rest in perfect peace in the bossom of Father Abraham.
