Road Accident

Four Vehicles Crash On Accra-Kumasi Highway; Dampare’s Boys To The Rescue

The Ghana Police Service hasn’t reported on any casualties yet about a dangerous vehicular accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway. The Kyekyewere near the Suhum stretch of the highway is the exact spot where four vehicles including a containerized truck have been involved in a deadly crash.

The truck had overturned, and the other vehicles were damaged, leaving heavy traffic at both ends of the road. It had taken the swift response of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department of the Ghana Police, and officers of the National Road Safety Commission to ease the situation.

Within minutes as the accident occurred, a towing truck was deployed to move the immobile vehicles affected by the crash from the road. It has been a swift action so far as the Police work assiduously to ease the traffic that is building on the highway this evening.

To help beat down the traffic, a social media communication warning of the traffic on that stretch has been issued to guide incoming vehicles to either consider a detour or ease their speed when approaching that section.

Actively on the ground are officers of the Suhum Police Station, by whose tactful operation they are preventing any collision or accidents while they remove any debris on the road. It is estimated that the entire stretch on the Kyekyewere road will be eased from this congestion in the next thirty minutes.

The communication about the accident is very useful, and every Ghanaian would attest to the fact that under the Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Public Affairs Unit and the social media team have become more proactive and relevant. The preventive strategy as deployed by the Police under the new administration is giving the public some confidence about their operations.

Though the quarterly report on road accidents and the police response to accidents are yet to be published, it is anticipated that some good ratings would emerge. It is not strange that Dr Dampare has even embarked on a regional tour to engage transport operators on road safety measures, especially when Christmas is almost due.
