'I want my people to remember me with this project' - Asante Akyem King cut sod for 100-acre stadia

Every King should be remembered for something, and I know my people are not ungrateful not to remember me, and when they do, I want my people to remember me with this project. When they come here to watch a ball, they will remember their King. When they bring their children to school here, the hospital here, swimming classes here, they will remember me and that is what I want, so help me and do this work in due time, the King Nana Akuoko Sarpong, the Omanhene of Agogo Traditional Area said to the contractor of the Nana Akuoko Sarpong Sports Complex before cutting sod for works to commence.

The 100-acre project is a project set to be completed within ten years with three phases. Phase one of the project is the building of the main stadium; The Akuoko Sarpong Stadium and a car park for the spectators and fans of the stadium. The car park will be a three-tier car park with two under grounds car park. The car park and stadium should be completed in November 2024, a three-year phase works.

The phase two of the project, which is also a three-year project will be completed in 2027 with the building of a physio centre, volley ball, tennis courts, and table tennis boards, swimming pools, a gym, a sports guest house for match officiators and players, a play ground for match rehearsals and a sport educational centre to train students in sport and athletes. The third and final phase will be the construction of a Sports Hotel and Sports Clinic. 

The hotel which will host match spectators and fans will have over 20 executive rooms and 80 normal double rooms making it a 100 bedroom hotel. The hotel is set to reduce match stress and to serve as a relaxing place for tired match fans. The Sports Clinic will serve as the main clinic for the Akuoko Sarpong Stadium, taking care of injured players and giving first aid to match fans who may need it. All these projects will be the complete phase of the Nana Akuoko Sarpong Sport Complex which scheduled for December 2031.

This project when completed, will not just serve as my legacy, but will help make Asante Akyem Agogo one of the finest city in Africa. My vision is above Ghana as I looked at Africa before providing the lands for the project, the King said in his opening speech at Agogo this afternoon.

The lead facilitator of the Nana Akuoko Sarpong Sports Complex, Nana Bediako Brogya Sarpong, the Dompiahene of Asante Akyem Agogo, thanked the investors for coming to the aid of the people of Agogo and Asante when the King Nana Akuoko Sarpong called for their partnership in making Agogo an envious city in Africa.

Speaking on behalf of the investors; Mr. Eric Oppong Yeboah, an investor, CEO and Director of Superbets Ghana Limited, thanked the king for the vast lands given to them and promised him of seeing to the completion of each phase of the project by the allocated time. We shall work on time and complete this project to glorify your awesome reign on earth your highness, Mr Eric Yeboah stated. The project has begun as excavators and bulldozers begun ploughing and clearing of the 100 acre lands for foundation works to begin.
