A teenager, arrested by the police for twice breaking into the accommodation of some students of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Hohoe campus, to steal laptop computers, mobile phones, pen drive, refrigerator, gas cylinders, saucepan and cash has been jailed 15 years by the Hohoe Circuit Court.
Lucky Ekanovor, aged 19, had on April 22, this year, broken into the rooms of some students of the university with one Tettetey, now on the run, dead in the night and made off with two Dell Laptops, One Lenovo Laptop, Tecno Spark 4, pen drive, computer mouse and cash of Ghs200.00.
As if that was not enough, Ekanovor, barely 24 hours after, was back to the place with another person, this time, to steal from the kitchen of the university students, a refrigerator, two gas cylinders and a non-sticking saucepan.
He was arrested based on police intelligence and the stolen items retrieved. For the first crime of stealing he committed with Tettetey on April 22, the circuit court presided over by Michael Johnson Abbey, sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
The court ordered that Ekanovor should serve additional 10 years in jail for the second break-in on April 23.
This was after he pleaded guilty to criminal charges of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry and stealing.
Divine Asimadzi, also aged 19, is going to serve a jail term of three years for dishonestly receiving some of the stolen items.
Police Chief Inspector Charles Aziati told the court that after the arrest of Ekanovor, a cousin on the fugitive Tettetey, carried with her to the police at Gbi-Bla, two mobile phones and a Dell Laptop, she said she found them in a bush near their house.
These phones and laptop were later identified by the student victims from whom it were stolen.
