According to reports by Citi News, the bullion van carting money on the Winneba-Accra road was intercepted by the unidentified armed robbers who lured the driver with green leaves on the highway as if there was an accident.
The driver slowed down at the sight of the leaves but just before they could realized anything armed robbers began to ambush them from behind and at the side. The police in the van instructed the driver to speed off. No one has been confirmed hurt in the incident and no property has been lost.
Even though the Ghana Police Service is yet to give a formal information on the incident, it is still unclear where the attackers came from.
This is the second attack on bullion vans in 3 days. The first incident occured after a bullion van carrying money at James Town in Accra was attack by armed robbers, killing the policeman providing security for the van and a hawker who witnessed the incident on the spot.
