42-year old man murders his wife over GH¢100
Money which is considered to be the root of all evil by some people, has lured a married man into murdering his wife this morning at Nsuotem, in the Bekwai district. Nsuotem is a developed community in Bekwai, and it shares boundaries with Bekwai main station. It was an estate residential apartment community, which was been built by Japanese investors, but they run out of cash and left the country. The construction was handed to natives, who has since been managing the estate after the Japanese left Ghana in 2001. The community was undeveloped when it was handed to the natives, but civil workers who were posted to Bekwai, took the lands there and started developing it with their wages. The Nsuotem community is recognized as one of the fastest growing Estates in Bekwai, and neighbouring towns.
Julius Atinkadem, has been self arrested by the residents of Nsuotem community, after he mistakenly crossed his wife with a kitchen knife. Julius is a Physician Assistant with the Ghana health service, and has been working as a PA for over twenty years now. He spends most of his time at the hospital, and the rest with his wife at the home. He is a peaceful man from all indications, but he couldn't bring out the peace within him, when a confusion broke out between him and the wife.
Julius have been struggling lately with finances, because of a car loan he took. His salary is taken by the loan agencies, and because of that, he hasn't been the man he was at first. Julius was the kind who gave freely to his wife, in everything she asked, even though she was working. Julius has become the sole provider for their family, after the wife lost to her job last December. The wife who works with a private company, is on leave without pay, because of the current health situation. Her job released her to go on compulsory leave because of the restrictions been put in place, which are hurting businesses.
Julius thought his wife was going to help with bills when he took the loan to buy the car, but bad luck came in and the wife is not working, because of the covid. This has since affected him, because of the loan deductions the bank makes from his salary. Julius gave his last amount of money on him to his wife Rebecca, who was to use it for market items, which will take them through the month until February ending.
Rebecca took the money, and went to the market to make purchases of items they needed in the house like food. Unfortunately for Rebecca, she couldn't find the money when she got to the market. It must have fallen off the road, when she was going to the market. Whoever saw it, must have taken it as a gift from God, but that was the only amount of money left for her and the husband to survive on. Rebecca went home to speak to Julius, on how best they can manage the crisis, and Julius lost his cool. Julius got infuriated, as soon as Rebecca told him about the missing money.
It was the only money left for them to use to buy foods, so it can last them until the month ending, but Rebecca lost it on the way to the market. Julius shouted at his wife and tried throwing an orange at her. Julius was eating oranges when the wife came to tell him about the unfortunate incident, his temper rose high, and called his wife reckless for putting them in harms way. He tried throwing one of the oranges at her because of the highly temper he was in, but mistakenly took the kitchen knife he was using to peel the oranges. Julius threw the knife at his wife without knowing, and ended up striking her in the stomach.
Julius tried pulling out the knife, and that ended the life of his wife. Neighbours came to him when they heard him shouting for help, Rebecca couldn't make it and died. Neighbours arrested him and took him to the Bekwai police, where he is currently resting. It was out of anger that made Julius threw the knife at his wife, and never meant it. He is still at the cells of the police, since nine in the morning. Rebecca's body is the Bekwai Hospital mortuary waiting for further investigations.
