The Ghana National Fire Service and Rescue Service (GNFRS) is an agency under the Ghanaian Ministry of the Interior, constituting Ghana's nationwide fire service.
The Ghana National Fire Service is required to provide adequate protection of life and property and sensitize and provide technical assistance and advice to schools, markets, MMDAs, lorry parks and other institutions nationwide on fire safety measures.
The major programme and project assigned to the Service is Fire Management, Rescue and Extrication services.
Residents of Gomoa Obuasi called the rescue team this morning to help rescue some individuals who had fallen into a well in the vicinity. Upon arrival, one personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service went into the well to rescue two individuals who had drowned in the well but as time went on, one other team member of the service decided to help in the rescue since they wanted to relief the first who was on the job.
After going down into the well, he wasn't coming out after a long time which created panic as they wondered what was happening to this colleague of theirs.
One reporter, Eshun Samuel narrated the whole incident as follows:
A resident about 26 years of age decided to retrieve an item that had fallen into the well this morning but upon entering the well, he couldn't come out for sometime so the sibling who also happens to be about 27 years decided to go into the well too to help the brother come out. Upon entering, he also got stuck in there. The landlord, owner of the well then decided to help in rescuing these two but also found himself in the well, not able to come out.
So failed attempts by these men caused the residents to call on the Ghana National Fire Service and Rescue Team to aid in rescuing all these drowned people.
The second team member of the Ghana National Fire Service who drowned has also been rescued after long hours of struggle in the well and has been rushed to the hospital.
All these victims, four in number including the Ghana National Fire Service person are receiving treatment currently and we are hoping they all come out alive and strong.
We are yet to know the item that actually fell in the well causing all these men this mishap today.
