‘Knowledge is Power’ is the motto of the Pakyi Number one D/A Junior High School where a 13-year-old talented kid is enrolled. He is a talented student who has made the school proud in winning various sporting awards until a taxi driver interrupted his dreams.
About three months ago, the thirteen-year-old boy went to satisfy his hunger with a hot morning porridge at a popular joint when a speeding taxi driver knocked him down. The talented kid was able to survive the severe injury caused by the accident but not without complications.
After buying the porridge, he bordered a tricycle back to school, the driver did not even move when the incident happened. He was quickly rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi where Doctors broke a sad news to the talented kid and his parents.
The doctors assigned to him indicated that one of his two legs had been affected and would have to be amputated. Tears were full on the faces of the family members, teachers, and friends who feared the talented kid would not be able to be part of the athletic team, not even to talk of his skills as the leader of the school’s cadet group for sixth March parades.
The only option left for the talented kid is to remain in crutches paralyzed for the rest of his life. His poor mother could not afford the GHC 5,000 bill per-theater appearance. The only thought that was going through the mind of the talented kid was how he would be able to play the drums with rolling sticks for his church. The sad story emerged as part of Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen impact project champion by Seth Kwame Boateng. Now, the young boy has through the project gone through four successful surgeries.
The living condition of the young boy and his family is another heartbreaking story that needs to be told. They live in a mud building which has been described as a family house. It looks very weak with parts almost collapsing. The mother had to abandon the rest of the family at home and live with her now paralyzed talented kid.
The driver who is in the middle of the entire incident is currently assisting the police in investigations. According to reports, the driver is over sixty years old and has been reporting to the Police station on daily basis. The case is currently being prepared for court, whilst the talented kid still has a few surgeries to undergo.
Paralyzed in crutches, the dreams of the talented kid have been shattered through road accident. It’s unfortunate how road crashes are ending lives and killing dreams. Let’s all raise a loud voice and end road accidents in Ghana.
