The final funeral rights of the Police Constable, Emmanuel Kobby Osei, was held today [Saturday, July 24, 2021] at the Gomoa Nyanyano Kakraba School Park around Kasoa in the Gomoa District of the Central Region of the country.
Friends and sympathizers who graced the funeral grounds of the young constable expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family of their beloved friend who lost his life in an instant after some unidentified fully armed robbers intercepted a bullion van for which he was providing security.
Speaking to a Citi News reporter on the funeral grounds, some friends of the young police officer eulogized him and said that Emmanuel was one of a kind—gentle, patriotic, selfless, loving, caring and gentle.
Indeed, a vast vacuum has forever been created in their hearts. Some said that they never thought of a day as sad as today will come. "Our hearts are broken and heavy by the sad departure of our beloved," they told Citi News.
Present at the funeral service were the Minister for Interior, Honorable Ambrose Dery, and sympathizers from the Ghana Police Service led by the Director-General of Welfare, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah were also present to mourn with the bereaved family.
The Ghana Police Service promoted the late Constable Emmanuel Osei to the position of a Lance Corporal. The Police Service believes that this accolade is well-deserved since Emmanuel Osei died while performing his assigned duty.
Constable Emmanuel Kobby Osei together with a trader, Madam Joyce Afua Badu, was killed by some unidentified armed robbers in a bullion van attack at Adedemkpo, a suburb of James Town in Accra on Monday, June 14, 2021 after they shot sporadically at the van.
Though several persons have been arrested by the police in connection with the attack in their investigations, no specific persons have been identified as the real killers so far.
Ambrose Dery assured the bereaved family that the police would not relent until the perpetrators are brought to book. The police service also encouraged the Ghana Bankers Association to provide bullet proof bullion vans for carting money into and out of banks to prevent any reoccurrence.
