Police have arrested an armed robber who has been on the police wanted list for several years after an operation at his hideout. The arrest was made by the Ho Municipal Command of the Ghana Police.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Alexander Yeboah acting commander of the Ho Municipal Police Command confirmed the arrest of the wanted criminal to Ghana News Agency, he said Adu had been on the police wanted list for years.
He said the suspect had been named in connection with many robbery and rape incidents involving Courage Banitsi, who has been jailed for robbery and rape for 33 years.
He said Dracula met the immigration officer at a traffic light at KK House while trying to travel to Accra for duty and the suspect threatened the officer with a dummy corked gun.
The police commander said the suspect loudly asked for the officers bag, phone and money, "bring your bag, phone and money" which the victim obliged.
He said that after collecting all the items, the suspect ordered the victim to "go" while cranking the gun.
He said Adu disappeared into the dark and the confused officer then went to the police to report the incident.
He said a reliable informant gave the police information about the suspect during the day which led to his arrest with brief resistance.
ASP Yeboah said a search of the room revealed two jack knives and other implements used for operations and some substances believed to have been "weed" was recovered after the search.
He said Adu would be arraigned after the investigation was over and asked the community around Ho, who had suffered from robbery and rape, to help police by coming to identify the suspect.
ASP Yeboah said the suspect claimed to want to report to the police at some point, but several people in public had discouraged him.
The suspect said his motivation is to take care of his son and wife.
