You Cannot Hide Forever Whiles We Are Alive- IGP Dampare Warns Criminals

It’s become apparent that the Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare has waged a war against criminals who have become a threat to the lives of innocent people in the country. In an assurance to people of Wassa Akropong and Ghanaians in general of the commitment the Police Administration has taken to fight crime in the country, Dr Dampare said a time would come where everyone would have no fear for their lives and or properties.

Addressing the Omanhene of Wassa Akropong, Tetretre Akuamoah Sekyim II today, Dr Dampare mentioned that for the measures taken by the Police under his administration, Ghanaians should be assured that crime would be grounded for good. He noted that communities shall be made safe to an extent that criminals would take a huge risk on their lives and freedoms to even come out.

He stressed that even with recent developments, criminal gangs have been scared off through the intelligence-led swoops and arrests made on some armed robbers. Dr Dampare said his word of assurance need not be construed as a brag, as he cannot stand before traditional authorities and lie about what he and the entire police cannot do.

“If the blind man threatens to throw something at you, there is surely something in his grip,” he mentioned.

He acknowledged that the nation is developing and so is criminal activities. Dr Dampare warned that every criminal or group of criminals and organised dangerous groupings in the country would have no peace as far as the police exist.

He disclosed that the best these criminals could do is to hide but “they cannot hide forever.”

“We will frustrate these criminals. We will make it difficult for them to come out. All they could do is to hide even that there will be hell awaiting them because we are not giving up on pursuing them.

“Those among them who are wise will repent but for the others, we will arrest and prosecute them. The criminal has no place among the civilian in our societies.”

He emphasized that prisons shall be fortified to hold all criminals who become a threat to society. The IGP intimated that the police is there to protect lives, adding that it would be their duty even till their last breathe.

“The government has created prisons to hold them. That will be their place when we arrest them. We will make sure we keep our communities safe from these criminals.”
