The police service is urging members of the public to stop attacking and harming its officers because they are not going to be frightened.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Director-General of Police Public Affairs, says, they remain resolute in their commitment to ensuring that there is law and order in the society, and this, they would do, even at the peril of their lives.

“Despite recent attacks on some of our men, we remain committed to our legitimate role of law enforcement.

We will not be deterred at all. We will remain committed to our mandate, even at the peril of our lives.”

ACP Kwesi Ofori said this at a ceremony held to receive the body of a slain police officer.

The officer, Sergeant Bright Annobil, was stabbed to death by a criminal suspect at the Nyamebekyere Police Station in the Berekum District of the Bono Region.

The suspect, Yaw Peprah, had been arrested and taken to the Nyamebekyere Police Station in the Berekum District of the Bono Region, for threatening to harm one Yaw Amankona.

Unknown to the police officers, the suspect was carrying on him a knife – this has been hidden on him.

At the police station, the suspect, suddenly pulled the hidden knife and began brutally stabbing the officer at the counter on the neck and other parts of the body and fled.

The badly injured officer was rushed to the hospital, but he could not pull through – died from his wounds.

The police in a statement said; Yaw Peprah had been arrested for threatening to harm someone.

“On reaching the frontage of the Police station, the suspect who was armed with a knife hidden in his pocket attacked and stabbed the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) severely on the neck and other parts of the body.

The NCO was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment but died shortly on admission.”

The suspect reportedly fled and went into hiding but was hunted down at his hideout at Komfuokrom also in Berekum, and he again attempted to stab the arresting officers with a knife.

He was shot after several attempts to disarm him failed.”

According to the police statement Yaw Peprah was also sent to the Holy family Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival at the facility.
