The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten armed robbers in the Volta Region. According to a press release signed by the director, public affairs, Alexander Kweku Obeng, the men were involved in the robbery of a company and occupants of a vehicle at Anlo-Afiadenyigba. But what caught the attention of Ghanaians is the inclusion of another teenager in the suspects.
Ghanaians are baffled at the rate at which young people who are engaged in the armed robbery are on the ascendency. The worrying trend spells doom for the future of the nation since the youth who will be the future leaders of the country are not in school acquiring knowledge, but using guns to rob people of their hard-earn valuables. Not long ago, the Ghana Police Service napped some armed robbers in the Kintampo North District in a swoop operation. During the operation, various guns and other harmful ammunition were discovered. What caught the attention of Ghanaians and struck a nerve in them is the involvement of teenagers, including a female among those who were apprehended. It leaves much to be the desire of the institutions which are charged with the responsibility of ensuring the welfare of children in society.
The family, schools, churches and other institutions whose primary responsibility is to cater to the welfare of children must up their game to make sure as a country we curb this menace that is rearing its ugly head in our society.
