The Inspector General of Police who is generally known as IGP is the most senior Police Officer in Ghana. The IGP is appointed by the President of Ghana acting in consultation with the Council of State.
On 8th October, 2021, Ghana had a new Inspector General of Police. George Akuffo Dampare is Ghana's current inspector general of Police.
Most persons may not know much about him. In today's article, let us find more about him and how he became the 23rd IGP of Ghana.
He is a chartered accountant by Profession as well as a police officer. He was the director General in charge of administration of the the Ghana Police Service. He has PhD in finance at King’s College, London, University of London. He has been a lecturer at GIMPA, UCC and KNUST.
He has served the Ghana Police service for over 30 years. He was a constable to positions like Director General (Finance), Director General (Welfare), Director General (ICT), Accra Regional Police Commander, Commandant for Police Command and Staff College and Director General (Operations).
He acted as the IGP in July, 2021 and appointed as the substantive IGP on 8th October, 2021 after a good performance in his period of acting.
He is married with six children.
