A Ho Circuit Court convicted Kwadwo Dese, a retired teacher and father of eight, for allegedly abusing her underage daughter for two years and then throwing her out on the street when she refused his sexual advances.
Before the case, the 69-year-old father pleaded not guilty to the charges of sexual assault and incest.
Kwadwo Dese was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties by the court.
Inspector Clever Ayayee told Mr. Felix Datsomor's court that, the accused also claimed that he committed certain actions on his own daughter in order to "preserve her to become the only graduate among her sisters."
According to the prosecution, Kwadwo Dese admitted only having oral sex with his daughter in his cautioned testimony.
According to the court, the victim, who is now 17 years old, lived with her mother in Kpetoe, Volta, before moving to Ho to live with her father in 2019.
According to the prosecutor, the child slept on the floor of the single room she shared with her father at first.
According to Insp. Ayayee, Kwadwo Dese later persuaded the girl to join him in bed at night, and he had sex with her from then on, warning her not to tell anyone about the act.
Kwadwo Dese fondled the girl's breast, inserted his fingers into her private part, and performed oral sex on her, according to the indictment.
According to Insp. Ayayee, the girl started to resist her father's sexual advances over time, which enraged Kwadwo Dese, who told the victim to pack her belongings and leave the house.
After, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit was notified of the situation (DOVVSU). Kwadwo Dese was then arrested and handed over to the police.
