12 Officers Injured, Police Vehicles Damaged - Police Official Rep on Arise Ghana Protesters Attack

The Ghana Police Service has provided an official update on attack by Arise Ghana Demonstrators stating that 12 Officers were Injured and Police Vehicles were also damaged.

The report from the Police Service highlighted that the demonstrators defiled the court orders and used unapproved routes. The statement said the organisers insisted on using route leading to the Jubilee House and all attempt to persuade them to comply with the court approved routes did not yield the expected result.

They further explain that without any provocation the protesters started pelting the police with stones which got 12 officers injured.

The demonstrators according to the police group regrouped and burnt tires on the road around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle. The police therefore had no option but to use tear gas and water cannons to subdue the routing and restore order," the statement said.

The police has also assured the public that all those involved in the violent demonstration will be brought to face Justice.

It would be recalled that the Ghana Police service notify the general public that because of lack of an agreement between the organisers of the Arise Ghana demonstration and the service, they referred the matter to the High Court for determination.

The High Court accordingly defined and provided directives which included approved routes and time for the commencement of the demonstration and the time to close of we demonstrated agreed to comply.

It quit unfortunate that of late all demonstration had to end with a misunderstanding between demonstrators and the service.
