You will face 2 to 5 years in jail if you seize car or lock-up the house that a deceased wife stays

Over the years, several people have been victimized in one way or the other after the death of their partner.

Women are seen to be more humiliated in the country when their husbands die. But in this difficult time that they need to be comforted is when they are rather maltreated by some of the deceased relatives.

The record has been set straight today by a renowned Lawyer and Television Personality; Sampson Lardi Ayanini of the Multimedia Group.

Lawyer Sampson in digesting the issue of spouses who go through thick and thin called and invited renowned lawyers to deliberate on issues regarding the Interstate Succession Law. And also, the repeal and modifications made to this law.

These lawyers advised family members who usually evict widows from their husbands' house, locking up the entire house, and seizing cars and other properties to desist from this act.

It was explained that this can land you in jail for not less than 2 years and not more than 5 years if you are reported to the police or court.

The lawyers also revealed that, when a person marries and dies even within a month, the deceased partner is entitled to inherit a greater portion of properties left behind.

These lawyers then called on the NCCE to educate the populace and citizens on these provisions. They, therefore, cautioned parents, uncles, nephews, and other family members to desist from physically harassing widows and widowers who are bereaved.
