At a short ceremony on April 20th, 2021, the University of Energy and Natural Resources, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako and the Bono Regional Police Command, commissioned a police post initiated and sponsored by its Students' Representative Council (SRC).
It can be recalled that the project was launched by the SRC's Joseph Adomako-led administration in 2020, when crime rates had risen, especially along the GETFund Hostel-Zinko stretch, where the facility is located. The Wiafe Richard administration, which took office in January 2021, completed the project by completing ancillary works, as promised during his campaign.
The handing over ceremony took place in the absence of SRC officials, which added to the suspense. Both the President and his Vice President, who were preparing for end-of-semester exams at the time of the incident, were unable to attend the ceremony despite having planned to do so.
The post, which will benefit adjoining communities of the Sunyani campus of the University will have personnel of the Ghana Police Service stationed there regularly.
