A couple of days ago, MTN , one of the leading telecommunications service providers issued some information to its customers or subscribers on how they intend to change customers mobile money transactions from the montApril.

According to MTN Ghana, customers would hence forth need to provide valid national identification cards to enable them withdraw cash from their momo accounts. They also said it was a measure put in place to curb fraud and for security and customers benefit, in safe guarding their money.

In spite of this swift notice, rumour quickly spread like fire, going round among the people, especially the illiterate class. Then there followed mad rush to withdraw money prior to the start of April which is just a day left. This has been as a result of some mis information, and for the fact that some customers didn't probably didn't register with their own names, and for lack of proper valid ID cards. They feared that they might loss their hard earned money in the process.

MTN communication team have made it clear that there is no cause for alarm. They directed all customers to dial *400*1# to check whether a customer momo is duey registered with a valid ID or not.

Upon the completion of the check, customers affected can still re register or up grade their information. So there is no need for any mad rush to withdraw cash from any Momo account because of the information.
