Ministry Of Lands Deploy Soldiers To Halt Illegal Mining Operations At River Offin

The Ministry of Lands and Natural has started operations to halt illegal mining activities on the River Offin. As part of operations to halt the activities, some soldiers task force has been sent to the mining sight.

A statement released on Saturday, 13th September, 2022, reads;

Following the report of illegal mining activities on the River Offin, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has taken a swift action to clampdown on the illegalities including the introduction of river guards and the operation Halt task force. 

The government through the Ministry will continue to safeguard and ensure the efficient management of the natural resources of the country."

The deployment follows the video that was released showing some miners at the river Offin with heavy machines. The river has been excessively polluted due to illegal mining activities.

Residents of Atwima Mponua District and its environs in the Ashanti Region have appealed to the President to as a matter of urgency stop mining on the Offin River.
