The family of a 33-year-old woman has accused Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) of negligence after her relative died at the facility. The unfortunate event occurred when Elizabeth Kwartemaa Laing arrived at the hospital to give birth to her baby in October 2021.According to the family, known as the Opoku-Mensah family, there have been no official reports of the actual cause of Elizabeth's death since her death on October 10, 2021.
The family said repeated petitions to hospital management for answers had been unsuccessful. The head of the family, Dr. Patrick Osei-Kufuor, told reporters that legal action would be taken against the hospital. Hospitals are using bureaucratic procedures to frustrate us. we wrote petition after petition, but the response has always been that we should give them time. The hospital had to do due diligence but did nothing before the surgery. We think the dose of anesthesia is wrong.
Meanwhile, in a letter seen by Newsmen, hospital management said in a letter to families dated December 2, 2021, that the hospital had established a committee to investigate the death and submit a report for management to read and act on. Management further emphasized that it was the end of the audit and therefore asked the family to let the hospital's internal process come to an end, after which the previous questions would be answered.
