Two men drowned in a galamsey pit in Sefwi

Two people in their late twenties have drowned in a mining pit in the Bodi District of the Western North Region's Sefwi Datano.

Mustapha and Mumuni, two friends who raided the mining site with friends in search of gold, have been named.

According to Adom News, Mustapha dived into the pit after removing some materials to work on a pumping tube to create water to wash the gold.

However, he refused to resurface, urging Mumuni, a classmate, to save him. Both miners died within minutes of each other in a futile attempt to remain afloat.

According to Augustine Boah of Adom News, the other miners on duty dove in to save both men, but they were already dead when help arrived.

The Bodi Police Command recovered both bodies and deposited them at the Juaboso Government Hospital.

In the last seven days, four people have died in the region as a result of galamsey-related activities.
