Ghanaian journalist and Lawyer Samson Lardy, the host of News File on Joy News has finally revealed the bold truth about the country Ghana and our justice system. Samson during his submission on Samson’s Take on News File this Saturday, July 9, 2022, revealed that he doesn't understand why most politicians will steal from the whole country and go free but someone steals a plantain and is sentenced.
Samson’s Take was about the topic “Community Sentence: plea bargain for the poor”. Samson finally made his plea that the community sentence in the country should be revised because it only punishes the poor.
“ It doesn't make sense to imprison the man who stole plantain to feed his family because he can't afford a fine while another who robbed an entire village walks free. Community sentences in this country should be revised because it punishes the poor. Let's go after the politicians robbing the country and communities instead. This is my plea to our justice system and everyone in the country.” Samson Lardy boldly revealed this on his show on July 9, 2022.
For me, I perfectly agree with Samson, it is high time our justice system revised the community sentence because it punishes the poor. We can bring up other ways to punish them rather than prison, besides our prisons can't accommodate them since it's almost full. We should focus on fighting corruption in government, communities, and villages. That will save the country more money.
