The mother of Ghana's vice president is being laid to rest according to Islamic tradition in Walewale today. The remains of the 82 year old Hajia Mariama arrived this morning in the company of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Other NPP and NDC gurus also tronge to the funeral grounds to support Dr Bawumia to bury his mother.
Mr. Freddie Blay, John Boadu and Sammy Awuku represented the NPP at the funeral grounds. Parliament was represented by the majority group leader Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, minority leader. Other dignatories who were present include the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Shaributu, Hon. Ambrose Derry and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumakuma, CPP chairperson.The former president John Mahama who had earlier called Dr. Bawumia to commisurate with him was not at the funeral grounds at the time of filing this report. The president of Ghana Nana Akuffo Addo was equally not seen. It is believed however that the two gentlemen will make time and visit the people of Walewale as soon as possible to pay their last homage to the mother of Dr. Bawumia.
Hajia Mariama Bawumia was born on 15th September 1939 and died on 13th September 2021, 2 days to her birthday. She will be burried at the family house where her late husband Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia was burried.
