Last Monday, Ghana did not hear a good news as a vibrant and energetic young police officer met his untimely death in the course of duty. He was escorting a bullion van transporting money and unfortunately shot by unknown assailants to death. The incident happened in Adedenpo, which is is suburb at James Town in the Greater Accra Region.
The sad incident has shocked Ghanaians and many people have sent their views concerning the matter. Social media commentator living in the States, Twene Jonas who is known for always attacking the leaders has waded into the issue. According to Jonas, the IGP should provide bullet proofs to all officers who escort bullion vans.
He again revealed that, they have to also provide pistols to every officer in addition to the long rifle they have been using. His reason was that, sometimes before such incidents happen, the police officers find it difficult to pull out that long rifle and by the time they realise the harm has already been caused. But if they have small pistols, they can quickly and easily remove and fire towards every armed robber that comes to their direction. He again said the long guns can even lock at the dashboard which will in turn make if difficult to pick and shoot.
