Road Accident

From 1st November, No Tricycle Will Be Allowed On The Motorway And Highways - Hon Henry Quartey

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon Henry Quartey, speaking on Adom FM Burning Issues, addressed a couple of developments ongoing in the region. For over some months now, the regional minister has been wanting to take tricycles off our main roads and highways. Several dates were rumoured for the banning tricycles from driving on the motorway and highways but it had not been implemented yet.

However, Hon Quartey has declared that from 1st November 2021, all tricycles carrying passengers, garbage, water, spare parts and even animals are prohibited from using the motorway and other highways in the region. He added that persons riding motorcycles and tricycles without licenses will be arrested, taken to court and made to get a license. Again he addressed the issues of motorcycles moving when the red light of the traffic light is up.

Motor riders and delivery services are in the habit of riding through traffic even when the lights indicate that all vehicles must stop. This has caused lots of accidents in the country. The regional minister stated that if such persons are caught, they will be dealt with according to the law. Hon. Quartey finally threw more light on the Operation Clean Your Frontage Project which is to take place in the capital. He stated that Operation Clean Your Frontage has come to stay.

The project has been passed as a bye-law which is to take effect from February 2022. So the next 90 days till the project begins will be used for education and sensitization of the program. However, the assembly will continue with its desilting and cleaning activities. Persons will be arrested if their frontage is found dirty. Such persons will be made to pay penalty points according to the law else the culprits can be jailed for not less than a year.
