There is no doubt that, the people of Appiate have been forgotten by most Ghanaians. It's been months and no one talks about the people of Appiate, their well-being and their progress so far. Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama paid them a visit yesterday and this has reminded Ghanaians of them and the unfortunate incident or accident that happened to them.
The people of Appiate lost their entire settlement to an explosion on the 20th of January, 2022. Aside this, about 13 people lost their lives and several people were injured. When the incident occurred, most Ghanaians could not eat nor go about their daily activities properly because they were somehow shock and hurt with the incident. The media and some politicians talked about it for some time, but there is no doubt that, after some months Ghanaians forgot about the incident.
It's been almost 7 months now when that explosion occurred at Appiate and Ghanaians were not even talking about it at all but yesterday's event that went on in Appiate has reminded Ghanaians again. John Mahama has reminded Ghanaians of the incident with his kind gesture to the people of Appiate.
On Tuesday, the 16th of August, 2022 John Mahama visited the Appiate community. He interacted with the chiefs, the Appiate Disaster Relief Committee, and the people of the community.
According the former first gentleman of the land, He handed over a quantity of food and non-food items to the Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni Valley, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Appiate Disaster Relief Committee.
He told them to hand over the foods, non-food and an amount of money to be given to the people of Appiate. This is really thoughtful, when everyone seems to forgotten them he showed up and did the needful. This is indeed a great surprise.
