Road Accident

Driver Badly Injured As Truck Crushes Two Cars In Head-On Collision At Essikado

This afternoon could have turned deadly if the tipper truck driver sped off the Sekondi-Cape Coast road via Essikado stretch. The head-on collision with two cars; a private car with vehicle registration number GT 5601 T, and a taxi with registration number GE 8010 X, left the driver in the private car badly injured.

The accident had caused huge traffic in the road for more than half an hour now, leaving travellers frustrated at the slower pace by the Motor Transport and Traffic Department of the Ghana Police Service in decongesting the road. The accident had badly impacted the movement of vehicles due to its closeness to an intercession on the Essikado road.

The accident is just a few metres away from the entrance to the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) and the branch that leads on the left to Essikado township, where most drivers from Kojokrom uses, and worse to it, the only alternative route out of Takoradi to Cape Coast and Accra.

Some eyewitnesses could hardly explain how the accident happened let alone lay the blame on a particular driver. It appeared the truck driver lost control and went off its lane crushing the private car in the process.

The impact suggested the private vehicle was speeding and ran straight into the bumper of the truck. The driver side of the private car was crushed, leaving it's bonnet almost ripped off.

The taxi driver luckily suffered noninjury and so were his passengers. However, the windscreen of the taxi is broken and the frontage dented.

While the Police continue with their investigation of the accident, the public is advised to exercise restraint while using that road. This accident had rippled into some traffic on the Kojokrom-Cape Coast- Accra Highway.

As the road is cleared of the debris from the accident, a message is sent via local radio stations to drivers and other road users to be compliant to road safety regulations and most importantly check on the functionality of their vehicles before they move it.
