The Ghana Prison Service (GPS) has received an amount of GHS 30,000 to aid the performance of the service. This donation was made by an organization or a foundation that seeks to make Ghanaian prisons perform like other correctional facilities in the western world. This foundation is called Crime Check Foundation (CCF). Crime Check Foundation through their series of research has identified that the prison system is faced with a lot of challenges. These challenges affect the performance of Ghanaian prisons purely as correctional institutions. To alleviate this problem, CCF has donated thirty thousand Ghana Cedis to the prison service. The donation is to support the prison service in its reformation and rehabilitation agenda.
CCF has shared this good deed on its official Facebook page. This post was met by a lot of reactions from Ghanaians who shared their thoughts in the comment section. CCF was congratulated by many for their donation but Ghanaians do not trust that this money will be used for the intended purpose. Here are some of the comments;
Amadu Kasim Bibo: "Mmmm... I don't trust these people with money...they will chop this money...it's paining me paa..."
Savannah Prince Awinzor: "May it be used judiciously to benefit the inmates. May God slaps anyone who will like to misappropriate this money. So help me God"
Mariam Sadat Nyawornyor: Please Mr. Alhaji Ibrahim, make sure these vampire beasts does not share this 30,000 among themselves because they have been doing more than this. I don't trust anybody in any Institute in Ghana again especially under this failure government".
Here are some screenshots with more of the comments.
These comments clearly show that Ghanaians are doubtful about this money been used for its intended purpose. The prisons in the country are faced with other problems apart from the one stated above and this includes overcrowding. This means the prisons need expansion to accommodate the prisoners. The prison authorities should ensure that this donation is rightfully used otherwise Ghanaians will not take it easy with them.
