What Happened At Circle 2015 Is Fresh In Our Mind; Residents Of Mempeasem Vow To Fight Developer

Tension is mounting at Mempeasem in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region as residents have vowed to halt the erection of a filling station.

According to the leader of the agitators Mrs. Grace Andoh, the location of the project is not only pose risk to their homes which is about 10 meters away, but it also blocks road access to institutions such as health clinic, school, and churches serving the community.

"No notice was served to those of us living here that such a project will be mounted, we woke up one day and realized there is a project ongoing." She told Rich Fm and Angel Fm / TV reporter Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack.

"We can not just sit down for him to set this death trap here. We will resist with all our might. I will proceed to court if the MCE fails to heed our cry" she lamented.

Some of the irate residents also bemoaned that, the location of the filling station saying it was supposed to be built on the outskirt of the town and not in the heart of the town. What happened at Circle in June 2015 is still fresh in our minds and cannot allow this to take place here. They sobbed.

Meanwhile, the Assembly member for the area, Mr. Abdul Rahman Ibrahim says though the developer has a permit from National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Environmental Protection Agency(NPA) including fire service respectively. The Municipal Assembly led by the MCE Mr. Nicholas Fiifi Baakoh have had a meeting about the issue to employ ways to address the cry of the residents and also measures to protect lives of the properties. He, therefore, appealed to them to exercise restraint.
