Three robbers have been shot dead while one suspect is arrested following intelligence-led operation by the Police Anti-robbery taskforce at Buokrom, a suburb of Kumasi.
The police say they received intelligence that the robbers were planning to attack a Businessman who lived in the affluent suburb of the Ashanti Regional capital and so mounted a road search of all vehicles that moved into the area.
The four suspect who were in a car upon noticing the police opened fire but the officers returned the fire and in the process injured three suspects who later died of their wounds at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. One suspect connected to the planned attack has been taken into police custody to aid investigations.
In a statement, the police said a search in the car of the suspects resulted in the retrieval of one pump action guns, a locally manufactured pistol, a revolver pistol, two daggers, black hoods, two pair of scissors and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
