The operation clean your frontage campaign which was led by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey has successfully being launched yesterday. They were honoured to have His Excellency Nana Akuffo-Addo present at the gathering. In addressing the house, the President of the Republic of Ghana made it known that this 'operation clean your frontage' campaign is to ensure various households, business places, bus stations, market places and other institutions (government and private) keep their environs clean and tidy.
He also urged all people to get involved to make this a reality as they would want to make Accra one of the neatest cities. Accra has been recognized as the world's second most expensive cities by Forbes but when you come to Accra, there is one thing you cannot lose sight of and that is dirt and improper disposal of waste. Even when you go to most of our beaches, garbage has consumed the whole place making it unattractive for the masses.
The Regional Minister has therefore made it known that he's giving individuals three months to start cleaning their surroundings and also get accustomed to this clean environment, but after the three month period is over, you will have yourself to blame for not adhering to their initiatives and keeping your environment tidy. This is because all persons who become victims for not keeping their surroundings clean will have to face the law. This should not be underrated since the Regional Minister is not joking about this since he is bent to make Accra work again. He will surely prosecute the offenders and this will start in February 2022.
Yesterday, after the function was over, certain task force officers started work as they were delegated to start creating awareness to make the public domain aware of this new campaign. They headed for Kwame Nkrumah Circle where they found some homeless people who slept under the bridge's environment filled with garbage and an unbearable stench from the place. They were asked to sweep immediately in order to clear the garbage from that place. According to the Mr Joseph Asetanga, the Head of Environmental Health Unit for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, he will make sure they continue to sweep till they are satisfied.
Hope you swept your environment today.
