This year has been one of the crime-filled years ever. Ghanaians have woke up to hear series of crimes, human body part cutting, kidnapping and all vices. There was also an Abesim crime where a child was cut into pieces and his body was left in the fridge by the perpetrator of the crime. The Kasoa children can also be cited because of how young they were to kill their own friends for money.
The new acting IGP- George Akuffo-Dampare has been up and doing. We are not in normal times and there is no way he can stay relentless in the matter. But the more he tries, the more crime reports come in. Besides, Takoradi has become known for kidnapping after the four teenage girls were kidnapped and killed later. I am therefore surprised why the 28-year-old pregnant woman- Josephine Simons will be left to walk/jog alone at 5 am.
According to the family, Josephine decided to go jogging at 5 am but she didn’t return. They searched all hospitals, thinking she might be due for labour and went to one but they didn’t find her at any hospital. Later, they received a call and told the family that they have kidnapped Josephine and that the family should bring money for her release. The family ran to the telecommunication to trace the location of the call but the telecommunication refused because they would need a permit from the police to embark on such exercise.
But my challenge remains why a heavily pregnant woman would be allowed to go out alone at dawn. I mean, not long ago, a taxi driver was arrested after confessing on Captian Smart’s Onua TV show for burying a pregnant woman alive to secure election victory for a former Ashaiman Member of Parliament. Knowing all these, why would one allow a heavily pregnant woman to walk out alone?
I do not intend to throw more pain into the injury of the family but I think we should all be on a constant lookout in Ghana. We are in an uncomfortable time where people are busy trying to use all means to get riches. Therefore, if you don’t take care, your beloved will be sacrificed because of your carelessness. In Ghana, when someone is pregnant, there are many exercises that can be done indoors to accelerate the speed of delivery. My wife, who happens to be a midwife tells me that couples are advised to have sex more few days to labour to speed the delivery. This is one of the safest, healthiest and guaranteed ways to give birth fast without stress.
